Upcoming March to Highlight Camaraderie Foundation’s Service to Military Families, Providing Vital Supplemental Counseling and Emotional Support for Our U.S. Armed Forces

Intelligent Decisions (ID), Inc., and the Camaraderie Foundation announced today that the foundation will hold its inaugural “March a Mile in Their Boots” Ruck Sack March on Saturday, November 17. ID serves as a premier partner of the Orlando-based foundation, which provides vital supplemental counseling and emotional and spiritual support for re-deployed soldiers, marines, sailors, airmen, and reservists and guardsmen, as well as their families. One of our military troops’ toughest challenges is a Ruck Sack March – an endurance test that requires service members to endure up to 25 miles carrying 45-plus pounds of gear. The Ruck Sack March will challenge participants to put on a backpack, add some weight, or not, and march, walk or run either a 3-mile, 6-mile or 12-mile track.

“I am proud to serve as an honorary co-chair for the Camaraderie Foundation’s Ruck Sack March. The demanding, dangerous and often-times multiple deployments by our nation’s military men and women over the past 20 years have resulted in a large and growing number of veterans who have experienced unimaginable trauma and very serious injuries. These dedicated patriots and many of their family members need significant community support to aid in their healing process, and the Camaraderie Foundation helps them successfully transition to life’s next opportunities and challenges. Please join me in support of these heroes at the University of Central Florida campus on November 17 for the inaugural Camaraderie Foundation Ruck Sack March,” said Vice Admiral (ret) Al Harms.

Warriors and their families are facing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury, divorce, substance abuse, spousal abuse, and child abuse, among other problems. The Camaraderie Foundation offers 85% scholarships to qualifying military service members and their families. As a supplement to what is offered by the military, these private sessions are conducted by licensed professionals and include anything from marital counseling to dealing with symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.

“This event allows us to shed some light on what our troops go through in training to be the best military in the world. Our goal is to raise awareness for people not directly tied to a service member or military life while raising much needed funds to support our troops and their families in the transition from the battle field. We are grateful for all of the support,” said Tammy Knowles, executive director of the Camaraderie Foundation.

“The Ruck Sack March is an important event that, ultimately, helps spotlight the invisible wounds of war suffered by our returning warriors and the long healing process that many of them face,” said ID President and CEO Harry Martin. “Intelligent Decisions is proud to be a premier partner of the Camaraderie Foundation in support of the men and women of our U.S. Armed Forces who keep us safe.”

Honorary Co-Chair Vice Admiral (ret) Al Harms, 15th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, John Estrada, and the Nelson-Salazar Ambassador Family will be on hand for the March, which will be held on the University of Central Florida’s Memorial Mall with registration beginning at 6:00 a.m.

The grand prize for the 12 mile EXTREME march is two round-trip airline tickets on Spirit Airlines.
